CKC Lineup

About half a dozen times a year, we hold what we call "Club Nights" which are sometimes D.I.Y. meetings, where members get together to chat, exchange ideas and registrations, help one another with musical problems and play for others to listen to.  Its surprising how the confidence grows when you hear others making just as many mistakes as you do!
Barbara Pryor, who runs our Club Nights

Here ... listen to this

I wonder what that button's for?

The Club owns an Orla KX900 drawbar keyboard, with midi pedal board and this is always available at these meetings and, having a disk drive, members can have the instrument at home to practise, save their settings and be ready to play when they get to the Club.  Other members bring along their own instruments and it is not unusual to have eight or more keyboards or organs available.  We also own an amplifier and speaker.

All together now!

On other occasions, we ask a local dealer to bring along some instruments, music books, etc. and give us a demonstration. These nights are popular with both members and dealers and we like to think it fosters good relations between the supplier and the consumer.

Mike Barden

Mike Barden (he of MIDI fame) came to give us an in-depth seminar on all things related to MIDI

Occasionally, we use a Club Night to host an extra concert performance or fund-raising activity.  It has become customary to hold a social fund-raising event each year around October, and these are always well-supported and bring in some much needed cash, although on more than one occasion we have raised money for local charities, such as St. Catherine's Hospice, Heatherley Cheshire Home and the local Hospital League of Friends

Social evening at Crawley

A recent fund-raising supper and dance was successful in raising over £300.  Our entertainer for the evening was RAY CAMPBELL. Ray Campbell - a very popular visitor to Crawley

Another fund-raising venture was to engage a Big Band for the evening - this time raising the magnificent sum of £500

Our Newsletter

Once a month we send out to all members - and to nearby Clubs and other interested parties - an eight page Newsletter containing up to date information on what is going on in our Club, photographs, news of members, etc.   We also give details of the programmes of nearby Clubs and odd bits and pieces of information, etc. which we think may be of interest.

Although entitled "Black and White Notes" our 100th Issue contained some colour - too expensive every month, unfortunately!
